The government declared a substantial achievement in containing the menace of banditry in the North Rift region, with Interior CS Kithure Kindiki announcing that incidents of banditry and its adverse effects on the people have been contained by 70 per cent. CS Kindiki made this announcement during his visit to Baringo County, where he assessed the progress of establishing new security measures.

Accompanied by Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Dr. Abdi Hassan, CS Kindiki celebrated the Boxing Day event with officers serving on the frontline at Karanga Joto in Baringo North and Tiaty sub-counties.

Kindiki emphasized the government's commitment to eradicating banditry activities, addressing not only the security aspect but also its political, cultural, and commercial networks. He highlighted the importance of suppressing bandit activities, creating an environment conducive to the development of social amenities, economic infrastructure, and durable peace-building programs in the region.

The Interior CS outlined an initiative that would be spearheaded by the government with the involvement of non-governmental stakeholders to ensure sustained progress.

During his visit, CS Kindiki distributed festive season celebration food items to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit and the Rapid Deployment Unit camps in Ngaratuko and Katie camps. He also extended the distribution to Loruk Police station, Yahya police post, and the Kenya Police Reservist officers, expressing gratitude for their dedicated service on the frontlines.

The government's proactive measures and commitment to containing banditry in the North Rift region reflect a concerted effort to ensure the safety, security, and development of the affected communities.
